Description: This position is for our off-site, Yankee Clipper Library, location and serves as both the Site Coordinator and Lead Teacher for the classroom.

The YMCA of Great Grand Rapids utilizes a Membership By Design framework, which is a member involvement and community building model for YMCAs across the country. All staff members-front-line, management, full- and part-time-and volunteers have a role to play in member engagement. These responsibilities can be broken into six steps:

  • Staff and volunteers encourage potential members to enroll in programs and activities that meet their needs.
  • Staff and volunteers ask members continually about their satisfaction with a program or activity, track responses, listen to suggestions, and respond promptly in a manner consistent with the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
  • Relationship Building: Staff and volunteers are open, friendly, and approachable to all YMCA members and participants. Staff and volunteers initiate interaction with and between members.
  • Education and Conversion: Staff and volunteers know about and share their knowledge of the YMCA, its programs, its policies, its mission, its values, and how it benefits members and the community.
  • Volunteerism and Leadership: Staff and volunteers create opportunities for members to volunteer in their areas of interest, and they ask members to do so whenever appropriate.
  • Staff and volunteers encourage members to own the YMCA, using words such as we, us, and our association (and actions that match those words) to include members as well as staff and volunteers. POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Lead Teacher/Site Program Coordinator assists with the day-to-day operations of the Great Start Readiness Program Yankee Clipper site. This position is responsible for overseeing the planning, developing, and implementing of classroom activities for a classroom size of 16-32 children. Operations include maintaining the food program (if applicable), scheduling, curriculum, staff, and children and parent relationships of the childcare programs. This position requires face-to-face leadership in these programs and may involve early morning and evening responsibilities.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Coordinates the day-to-day preschool program at assigned locations
  • Develops action steps to improve programs quality and enrollment
  • Recommends appropriate staffing plans to meet ratio requirements
  • Ensures recruiting, orientating and enrolling children/families
  • Tours prospective childcare participants/members
  • Recommend necessary child/family referrals
  • Recommends purchases of instructional materials and teaching aids such as books, toys; equipment and games designed to stimulate learning
  • Confers with parents regarding facility activities, policies, and enrollment procedures
  • Confers with teaching staff regarding challenges in a child's behavior or learning style and recommends methods of modifying challenging behaviors and encouraging learning experiences to meet each individual child's needs
  • Reviews and evaluates facility activities to ensure conformance to state, ISD, and local regulations
  • Advocate childcare in the community
  • Maintains a positive relationship with assigned licensing consultants
  • Maintains Michigan childcare records for licensing and food program (if applicable)
  • Arranges medical attention for ill or injured children in accordance with parental and YMCA Association guidelines
  • Implements Character Development of the YMCA in program
  • Maintains a positive relationship with school staff and board of education members (if applicable)
  • Manages and coaches' staff at program sites when necessary.
  • Plans and leads daily lesson plans
  • Organizes and participates in games and activities
  • Provides weekly lesson plans to parents
  • Provides each participant's parent with information on individual activities on a daily basis
  • Prepares materials for daily activities
  • Maintains records of attendance and arrival and departure times
  • Maintains supervision of children
  • Conducts parent-teacher conferences at twice a year
  • Completes documentation for the three checkpoints throughout the program year.
  • Establishes a working relationship with Early Childhood Specialist, which includes offsite meetings and conferences.
  • Conducts Home visits twice a year.
  • Maintains the quality and quantity of supplies, equipment, and materials in the classroom
  • Disciplines children and recommends or initiates other measures to control behavior
  • Handles parent concerns
  • Travel to conference within state and out of state.
  • Adhering to MDE guidelines and requirements for GSRP Performs any other functions deemed to be necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids Association

    COMPENSATION

    $16.91 - $21.14 ; Full Time, Non-Exempt (40 hours/week)

      Bachelor's Degree (BA) from four-year College or university; three to five years related experience; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Past supervision experience preferred. Ability to interact with people of all ethnic backgrounds, ages and lifestyles. Ability and desire to work with children 3-5 years of age. Working knowledge of computers and experience with a variety of software applications. YMCA experience preferred
