Job Description:
L3Harris is seeking Electrical Engineering Manager to join our
Engineering team in Phoenix, AZ or Grand Rapids, MI or St.
Petersburg, FL.
Reporting to Director of Hardware Engineering, Electrical
Engineering Manager provides oversight and supervision of a
designated functional grouping within the Commercial Avionics
hardware department. The position will lead program teams to drive
design excellence across a product life cycle. The manager will
direct digital, analog, power, RF hardware engineers, and FPGA
firmware engineers. The position supports Commercial Avionics
products, including surveillance, transponder, recorder, display,
sensors. Program involvement includes guiding teams in planning,
technical solutions and risk mitigation. The manager promotes and
strives for continual improvement of developmental processes and
practices to increase rigor and efficiency while containing cost.
Strong people skills are required to interact successfully with
direct reports, program teams and engineering functional
leadership. The successful candidate will plan, develop, and
coordinate employee training and professional development
requirements. This role will perform management activities for
employees in the group, including performance reviews, career
development, resource allocation, and recognition. This position
will help develop and improve engineering processes applicable to
the department.
Essential Functions:
- Advocate, promote and reinforce electrical engineering process,
methodology, and best practices across the electrical engineering
organization with special emphasis on the responsible functional
group.
- Manages a team with focus on policy and strategy
implementation.
- Mentor and motivate to develop functional group potential
resulting in the build of a high performing team with defined
professional growth through training and career planning.
- Ability to work in a teaming environment across multiple sites,
while possessing good interpersonal and communications skills
- Self-motivated to identify performance issues and provide
potential solutions through strong organizational, analytical and
problem-solving skills
- Coach, counsel, monitor, and appraise staff performance,
addressing performance issues in a timely manner, and also advocate
for increased responsibility and growth for high performing
engineers.
- Direct an integrated product team or sub-contractor into
exploration of new problem solution areas with novel concepts and
approaches, guiding scope definition and prioritizing problems for
investigation while ensuring adherence to program goals of
technical performance, cost and schedule.
- Primary point-of-contact with various technical customer
suppliers and sub-contractors, with expectation of acting
independently on technical matters.
- Technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing,
executing, and coordinating program assignments.
- Perform project planning, scheduling, and monitoring activities
for cost and schedule.
- Communicate needs/requirements/status to management and other
engineering disciplines.
- Coordinate, lead and manage peer reviews, both internal and
external PDRs and CDRs, along with any other required design
reviews.
- Manage functional group by recruiting, selecting, orienting,
planning, and training employees.
- Write and deliver performance reviews to staff
- Respond to business environment requirements through resource
planning, including load management of effected resources, skill
set competencies and long-term capacity planning for responsible
functional group
- Assist in the identification and introduction of appropriate
tool sets to support successful program execution
- Participate in proposals and review cost estimates/proposal
packages
- Willing to be Hands-on when needed
- Other duties as assigned Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science with minimum 9
years of prior related experience. Graduate Degree with a minimum
of 7 years of prior related experience.
- Prior experience working in leadership roles.
- Prior experience working with continuous improvement.
- Understanding of the full product development process.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Master's degree in Engineering or Science highly desired.
- Excellent problem-solving skills (root cause analysis
experience).
- Robust understanding of all aspects of the electrical
engineering discipline.
- Familiarity with electrical engineering hardware
development
- Familiarity with FPGA firmware development
- Outstanding communication skills (written, verbal, &
presentation)
- Excellent people skills, with experience leading and
collaborating in a multi-disciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team
environment.
- Outstanding work ethic and commitment to organizational
success
- Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout tools - Mentor
Graphics Expedition or similar
- Experience with FPGA firmware development tools - Xilinx
Vivado, Aldec or similar
- Ability to support geographically dispersed teams, including
through travel
- Experience with RTCA DO-254 design assurance guidance for
airborne electronic hardware
- Knowledge of engineering design standards for commercial
aviation industry
- Experience in proposal development and preparing defendable
Basis of Estimates.
- Experience leading Root Cause Failure Investigations
- Experience working in a Continuous Improvement Culture
- Experience designing or troubleshooting high reliability
electronics
