Job Description:

Overview Analyzes and amalgamates information provided by many people who interact with the business, such as customers, staff, IT professionals and executives. Responsible for eliciting requirements from stakeholders and determining those requirements that are actual needs versus expressed desires. Assists in the prioritization of work by working with the business to expose the value of the requirement, as well as IT to put together an estimated effort. Plays a central role in aligning the needs of the business unit with the capabilities delivered by IT and serves as a "translator" between groups. Uses techniques that are project appropriate. While working on an agile project, the Business Analyst uses techniques that enable a highly iterative delivery approach of continuous requirements identification and just-in-time definition of requirements. Serves as a surrogate product owner, representing the product owner when communicating requirements to the development team. Owns the requirements including definition, acceptance criteria, test plans, test data, automated test scripts and ultimately acceptance and verification of the product. Responsibilities ---Primary responsibility includes overall requirements management and traceability through acceptance and verification. ---Elicits requirements for business process execution including interviews, intelligence analysis and survey assessments. ---Translates business needs, processes, and procedures into a workablesystem, and articulates on specific software requirements by communicating about these requirements with technology experts and business stakeholders. --- Works closely with business analysts and other technology staff to deliver project results, meet required deliverables and to ensure adherence to quality risk analysis and meeting required deliverables. --- Performs business requirements analysis to aid the business in meeting its objectives and goals. Performs discoveries to determine how work is being conducted, and through analysis, determines solutions to the issues and unmet opportunities. Conducts a feasibility study or justifies the investment in change through a business case. --- Performs business process analysis to bring change to organizations through analysis, design and implementation of the business processes that keep organizations running and the management of changes to those processes. Possesses deep competencies in identifying the current state of processes, eliciting useful and harmful attributes of them, documenting models of the processes and facilitating stakeholder groups to consensus regarding new business process designs. --- Performs decision analysis utilizing technologies, methods and practices for continuous iterative exploration and investigation of past business performance to gain insight and drive business planning. Helps the business to develop new insights and understand business performance based on data and statistical methods. --- Develops documents for IT applications, system specs and test plans, according to existing standards and methodologies. --- Maintains work plans, incident tracking, error tracking and documentation required to effectively manage deliverables and expectations consistent with business requirements. --- Applies and utilizes appropriate methods to ensure results-oriented deliverables in a way that can be recreated and leveraged as intellectual capital. --- Evaluates project impacts and escalates issues and risk appropriately. --- Collaborates with business leaders, providing input and capability information as inputs to develop business case for initiatives. --- Constructs, creates and grooms product backlog from inception to delivery. --- Acceptance and Verification --- Documents acceptance criteria, test data and test steps required to perform verification of the product. --- Ensures all documentation is traceable to the original requirement(s). --- Understands technical specifications to ensure thorough test coverage. --- Creates, executes, and maintains automated, reusable test scripts to verify product acceptance. --- Ensures test scripts follow existing standards to enable reusability of modular tests among team members. --- Performs functional, system, regression, load and database tests. --- Analyzes, prioritizes and reports defects that are traceable back to the test script, test steps, test data and requirements. --- Updates all documentation as changes are identified and implemented ensuring that the system delivered is accurately reflected in the documentation. --- Ensures post-production verification and ultimately declaring all specifications have been delivered as desired and intended. --- Monitors and controls all post-deployment defects through iterations of progressive improvement until 100% verification is achieved. --- Completes other tasks as assigned. Qualifications --- Demonstrated broad, enterprise wide view of the business and varying degrees of appreciation for strategy, processes and capabilities, enabling technologies, and governance. --- Proven ability to recognize structural issues within the organization (role alignment, process gaps and overlaps, business capability maturity gaps, etc.) functional interdependencies and cross-silo redundancies where those issues may exist. --- Proven ability to assimilate and correlate disconnected documentation and drawings and articulate their collective relevance to the organization and to high-priority business issues. --- Proven ability to act as liaison conveying information in suitably accurate models between the business unit and their counterparts within Information Technology. This information includes business requirements, data constraints, business rules, models of strategy and motivation, processes, accountabilities, and many other business and IT operational needs. --- Demonstrated strong situational analysis and decision-making abilities. --- Proven ability to visualize and create high-level models (rigorous information-rich diagrams) that can be used in future analysis to extend and mature the business architecture and experience developing and using these high-level models as required to collect, aggregate, or disaggregate complex and conflicting information about the business. --- Demonstrated exceptional communication skills and the demonstrable ability to communicate appropriately at all levels of the organization; this includes written and verbal communications as well as visualizations. --- Proven process improvement (e.g., Lean Six Sigma) skills. --- Proven ability to be a Team player able to work effectively at all levels of an organization with the ability to influence others to move toward consensus. Work Setting: --- Works in an office setting or remote and remains in a stationary position for long periods of time while working at a desk, on a computer or with other standard office equipment, or while in meetings. --- Requires visual acuity to read a variety of correspondence, reports and forms, and to prepare and analyze data in an accurate, neat and thorough manner. Educational Requirements: --- Associate/bachelor's degree or equivalent in experience. --- Three years of life insurance or at least two years in an organization with direct-to-consumer marketing distribution model. --- Three years of business analyst-related experience. Computer Skills and Knowledge of Hardware & Software Required: --- Intermediate Microsoft Office (.doc, .ppt, .xlsx) Visio and Access user. --- Intermediate SharePoint. --- Understanding of IT SDLC. Certifications & Licenses (i.e., Series 6 & 63, CPA, etc.): --- Possesses or is eligible for Certification of Competency in Business Analysis--- (CCBA -). --- LOMA certifications desirable. Position Demands: --- Extended hours required during peak workloads or special projects. --- Travel to home office, vendor sites or conference locations as the job needs arise. This might require overnight stays and should only be about 5% of the time.
