involvement and community building model for YMCAs across the
country. All staff members-front-line, management, full- and
part-time-and volunteers have a role to play in member engagement.
These responsibilities can be broken into six steps:
- Enrollment: Staff and volunteers encourage potential members to
enroll in programs and activities that meet their needs.
- Satisfaction: Staff and volunteers ask members continually
about their satisfaction with a program or activity, track
responses, listen to suggestions, and respond promptly in a manner
consistent with the values of caring, honesty, respect, and
responsibility.
- Relationship Building: Staff and volunteers are open, friendly,
and approachable to all YMCA members and participants. Staff and
volunteers initiate interaction with and between members.
- Education and Conversion: Staff and volunteers know about and
share their knowledge of the YMCA, its programs, its policies, its

community.

volunteers.POSITION SUMMARY:The Lead Sports Specialist assists with
the day-to-day operations of the pre-school, youth, and adult
sports programs. The Lead Sports Specialist is also responsible for
year round preschool, youth, and adult sports programs. This
position requires on site face-to-face leadership in these programs
and requires evening, and weekend availability.PRINCIPAL
ACTIVITIES
- Assist with the day to day operations of the sports
department
- Implements sports programs, activities, and clubs
- Schedules the off-sites facilities for programs
- Maintains adequate rosters for each program and makes periodic
reports
- Administers all preschool and youth sports onsite and offsite
programs
- Prepares informational packets for participants, volunteers,
team captains, and coaches
- Develops school break activities for area youth
- Assists in collecting and depositing entry fees
- Manages 10-20 seasonal staff and up to 50 volunteers
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the
Association's policies and applicable laws
- Assists staff in identifying and meeting all development needs
with action plans built into the next fiscal year budget
- Sets goals and objectives for each staff member
- Makes annual salary increment recommendations
- Audits payroll reports
- Fills staff vacancies in accordance with established
Association policies
- Supports the Association in recruitment of diverse staff and
volunteers
- Interviews, hires, and trains staff; plans, assigns, and
directs work; rewards and disciplines staff; addresses complaints
and resolves problemsPerforms any other functions necessary for the
smooth and efficient operation of the YMCA of Greater Grand
RapidsCOMPENSATION$13.78 - $17.23 Full-time; Non-Exempt (40 hours

Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONSAssociate's degree (AA) or equivalent from two-year
college or technical school; six months to one year of related
experience in sports management, coaching, or program management;
or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
required. Knowledge of program elements (organization, promotion,
establishing curriculum, and safety) and the ability to implement
them. Past supervision experience preferred. Ability to interact
with people of all ethnic backgrounds, ages, and lifestyles.
Ability and desire to work one-on-one and in groups with
youth.CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION
- State of Michigan criminal background clearance (ICHAT)
- Blood Borne Pathogen training
- CPR Certification required within the first 60 days
