Job Description Job Title: Surgical Technician/Clinic MA or Nurse Reports To: Office Manager Hours: 32 hrs per week Summary of Responsibilities : This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated MA or LPN to advance their earning capabilities by becoming a surgical technician in the specialized field of Plastic Surgery. While performing the clinical duties of a Medical Assistant, you will have the opportunity to learn and facilitate the safe and efficient performance of surgical procedures. Surgical Technician Responsibilities: Prepares and anticipates instrumentation, equipment, and supplies for usage during the procedure. Sets up the sterile back table and Mayo stand with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for the procedure. Performs initial instrument, sharps and sponge counts with the circulator. Participates in the surgical site and patient verification during the briefing process. Assists with draping the patient and establishing the sterile field. Anticipates the needs of the surgeon by passing instruments and supplies to surgeon during procedure. Maintains highest standard of sterile technique during the procedure. Prepares and passes off specimen(s) as appropriate Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization. Assists other members of the team with cleaning the operating room to facilitate turn overs. Participates in debriefing and quality improvement practices to ensure quality patient care. Assists in the development of a proper learning environment in relation to orientation and education of personnel. Assists surgeon---s provision of hemostasis during surgery. Assist with supply ordering. LPN/MA Clinic Responsibilities: -- Obtain patients medical information, past and present, in preparation for office visits -- Take and record vital signs -- MAP patients who are prescribed schedule 2 medications. -- Prepare electronic office notes -- Assist the Physician with necessary office procedures -- Order necessary tests/labs -- Attend to patient triage and paperwork in a timely manner -- E-scribe patient prescription -- Explain, review, and obtain patient signatures for surgical consent forms when needed. -- Assist Surgical Coordinator with scheduling surgical procedures -- Obtain insurance authorizations for surgical procedures -- Manage patient forms and incoming correspondence that requires the Physician---s review and signature -- Review upcoming week schedule to ensure that all necessary patient information has been obtained either via the patient portal or hard copy registration documents. o If information has not been received, contact patient -- Review referring physician notes and have prepared for Dr. Timek---s signature. -- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all HIPAA and OSHA rules and regulations -- Order Clinic supplies -- Restock clinic rooms APS Surgery Center Responsibilities: -- Assist with surgical chart prep. -- Prep Surgical bags -- Assist in everyday cleaning and maintenance of the clinic What You Will Need Licenses/Certifications/Registration: Preferred Credential(s): LPN License-Current in the state of Michigan BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA). Education: Associate degree, or technical degree preferred. Graduate of an accredited: o LPN or Surgical Technology program or o Completion of Medical Assistant Program -- Completion of regulated medical waste training within 30 days of hire. Minimum Background Requirements: -- Good work history -- Medical Assistant experience -- EHR experience -- 3 professional references -- Background check Minimum Demonstrated Skills -- Demonstrated excellence in organizational skills -- Demonstrated excellence in communication skills -- Proficient computer skills including MS word, Excel, and Outlook -- Demonstrate ability to work cooperatively with others -- Must be willing to achieve goals with tenacity, compassion, and a sense of humor -- Must demonstrate ability to successfully work with all types of personnel -- Must be able to communicate in English -- Enthusiasm and possess excellent customer service skills Physical Demands: -- Must be able to stand, reach, bend and squat repeatedly during the day -- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
