Description: Job Title: SeniorManager of In-Service Product EngineeringJob Location: Grand Rapids, MIJob Code: IMS20222804-81517Job Description:The Commercial Aviation team in Grand Rapids Michigan is seeking a Senior Manager Of In-Service Product Engineering supporting the Operations (Manufacturing and Repair & Overhaul) organizations.This role incudes:Managing the cross-functional team of engineers (electrical, RF, mechanical and software) on-site in Grand Rapids MI that provide support to Operations. This includes participation in the daily operations and gemba meetings held on the production floor, working with operations to understand and prioritize the open engineering action items, assigning team members to tasks (short duration such as troubleshooting, to longer term strategic improvements) and scoping redesigns for obsolescence and part shortages. This role also includes participation in product design reviews as a subject matter expert to help ensure newly developed IR&D products are successfully transitioned into the production flow.Essential Functions:Ensure team members provide troubleshooting to identify root cause of production issues, recommend and verify corrective measures resolve the issues.Lead team to resolve component obsolescence and shortage issues. This includes working as the Engineer representative with PMO and Supply Chain to make redesign / bridge-buy / lifetime-buy decisions. Plan and execute component replacement and redesign projects.Maintaining adequate team staffing & skillsets: Recruiting, Interviewing and Hiring additional team members, augmenting team staffing with short term contractors, as well as Coaching Mentoring and Training of direct reports.Review and approve engineering change requests, help ensure changes are completed through the life cycle and into a production break-in.Work with procurement and external suppliers to answer technical questions and facilitate the implementation of changes and improvements.Participate in Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Test (DFT) and Design for Cost (DFC) analysis.Lead team with a spirit of Continuous Improvement, to drive improvements in department processes, with a goal to increase team's work product quality and repeatability, with a faster time to market.As Manger your role also includes identification and removal of roadblocks prohibiting your team from executing to plans.Setting team member objectives, conducting performance reviews, developing training plans and ensuring team members achieve their growth opportunities.Qualifications:BS Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering; with 8 or more years of hands on experience taking a design from development, and into production.At least 1 year of formal supervisory experience (or 3 years as an informal team leader).Ability to identify resource shortages, personnel performance issues, tool or equipment needs or other roadblocks.Self-motivated to identify and resolve technical issues; by providing direction and guidance to team members, while utilizing strong organizational, analytical and problem solving novative approach to problem solving, willing to try new ideas and approaches.Ability to work in a teaming environment and possess good interpersonal and communications skills.Preferred Additional Skills:Masters or PhD in Electrical or Computer EngineeringExperience with Continuous Improvement, Lean Engineering or Six Sigma methodologies.Exhibiting the ability to coach team members on technical, process and interpersonal issues.Effective and timely communication to manager, with ability to provide progress reports succinctly and confidently.Ability to delegate work to others while still ensuring the work is completed in a timely manner.
