Director of Trade Home Office: 601 First Street NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504 Position Classification: Full-Time Regular About this Opportunity Under the direction of the Chief Operating Officer, the Director of Trades is responsible for the management of the Trades department and personnel, including strategy, financials and general operations. Additionally, the Director of Trades will oversee various Trades construction projects from start to finish, ensuring the highest quality of craftsmanship. The ideal candidate will have an entrepreneurial spirit, Trades management experience and strong leadership skills. This position reports to the Chief Operating Officer. * Foster an environment of diversity, equity and inclusion. * Strategy Lead the development of additional trades skill sets and expand the Trades teams offerings. Responsible for developing and refining a culture that aligns with corporate goals. * Innovation and Collaboration Be a champion. Promote innovation and collaboration internally within the Trades team and externally with both existing clients and prospects. * Leadership Build and maintain an efficient and effective Trades team by recruiting, mentoring and managing a highly skilled team. Structure tasks, projects and deadlines to promote efficient delivery. Promote a strong, responsive service culture. Create and maintain policies and procedures that further promote efficiencies and a service-oriented culture. * Financial Responsibility Monitor overall time and costs on projects. Review time sheets and track trends for time spent versus hours budgeted and estimated. Make recommendations to improve efficiencies. * Operations Support the enforcement of processes and best practices by establishing and communicating company standards and policies for work to be completed onsite as well as best practices for project management. Identify areas of noncompliance and recommend/implement approved improvement plans. * Training Provide leadership in the continuous improvement of team members skills. Create on-the-job training metrics to help support team members in the advancement of their careers. * Scheduling Work with Foremen and Project Managers to understand short-term staffing needs and to forecast long-term project needs based on committed and potentially committed projects. Communicate weekly with Foremen about work schedules and provide leadership and decision making to understand corporate priorities and project deadlines. * Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements * Bachelors degree in business, management, construction management or related field preferred. * 5-10 years of construction industry experience required. People management and/or supervisory experience required. * Strong organizational skills. * Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with construction teams, trade contractors, AE partners, executive leadership and clients. * Strong knowledge of the construction industry and the ability to problem-solve. * Must demonstrate high emotional intelligence and the ability to expertly manage people and emotions. * Ability to develop and maintain sound working relationships with a variety of people, including trade contractors, owners, managers, designers and supervisors. * Reliable transportation to travel to jobsites as required. Environmental Factors The work environment for this position may subject the individual to hazards commonly associated with construction sites. Examples of physical hazards include noise, proximity to moving vehicles, atmospheric conditions, close quarters, uneven surfaces, and elevated surfaces. The individual may also be subjected to outside environmental conditions (weather) where protection may not be available.
