PURPOSEDetermines product development and engineering requirements
of both internal and external customers, and establishes goals and
objectives to fulfill these requirements. Leads a team of technical
professionals and manages team resources to achieve goals and
objectives. Ensures excellence, integrity and continuous
improvement in new products and product development
skills.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSAssists project teams and individuals in
solving difficult, ambiguous and complex problems; challenges and
motivates engineers and designers; promotes individual
accountability and responsibility with team members; mentors team
members.Builds and maintains a productive working relationship with
Product Engineering, Operations, Supply Management, key suppliers
and Industrial Designers. Develops and manages external contracted
engineering services.Drives continuous improvement in product
quality, product integrity and product cost.Establishes team
strategies, goals, objectives and work assignments that align with
customer needs, support the project plans of Core teams, and
support the business plans of the company. Provides lead council on
critical technical questions and decisions. Monitors and reports
project status, roadblocks and conflicts to peers, senior leaders
and Core Teams.Evaluates, hires and trains new employees; Creates
and maintains employee performance plans and performanceGathers
information, strategies and data to discern the product development
needs and directions of internal customers, external customers and
project teams. Maintains awareness of broad business parameters
which may lead to opportunities for improving products or business
processes.Investigates and evaluates new products, materials,
technologies, manufacturing processes and suppliers.Manages and
nurtures professional and productive relationships with internal
and external groups in support of product development initiatives.
Participates in Core Teams that engage in new product
commercialization projects. Participates in teams and activities to
develop the skills and competencies of product development
engineers. Supports the development of competency plans for work
team members from adjacent technical services.Performs other
responsibilities as required to achieve business
objectives.Provides leadership for the application and improvement
of engineering technical skills, competencies and technical
tools.Resolves resource requirements and makes project assignments
to achieve core team goals and objectives. Develops staffing
requirements for development engineers assigned to NPC
projects.reviews, recommends employees for promotions, merit
increases, special recognition or performance improvement; promotes
and fosters a creative and inclusive work environment.Performs
additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business

objectives.QUALIFICATIONSTo perform this job successfully, an

CertificationsSkills and AbilitiesBachelor degree in Engineering,
Master degree preferred. Additional degrees in Business Management
or other related disciplines are beneficial.12 years of experience
in product development engineering (new and existing products),
including proven experience as product engineer and technical
project manager. Prior product management experience helpful.3
years of successful experience leading the work activities of
engineers, CAD designers or equivalent technical
professionals.Knowledge of and direct experience with engineering
tools and methods, e.g. CAE, testing, CAD, problem solving,
Engineering IT, Materials, DFA, DFMEA, Creativity, ERP databases,
Project Management, Engineering Analysis, and Tooling,
Manufacturing processes.Demonstrated leadership competence as
defined in Herman Miller's Leadership Skills and Behaviors.Ability
to effectively use office automation and communication software and
tools used in the HMI office environment.Ability to think
strategically and execute tactically.Expert communication skills,
e.g. verbal, written, interpersonal and presentation.Must be
financially literate and possess business acumen.Must be able to
perform all essential functions of the position with or without
