GRCDC Substitute Teacher Title: Substitute Teacher Reports To: Executive Director Schedule: As needed, 7:50am-4:20pm, 40 minute duty free lunch- You work on the days you choose! Pay/Benefits: $125/day, no benefits associated with this position- will reimburse for sub permit and/or fingerprinting as needed Questions: Contact Lisa Nuyens, Executive DirectorMay have opportunity for long-term subbing for a teacher on leave available soon, as well Job Function: The Grand Rapids Child Discovery Center uses a Reggio Emilia- inspired approach to support children in their academic and social development. As an independent charter school, we are not part of EduStaff and must hire our own district's substitute teachers. Substitute teachers are to instruct students and facilitate learning in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. The sub must be creative, flexible, and resourceful- with an eye for social dynamics and school safety. District Description: The District has one building, approximately 280 students in grade levels K-5 and is located in the heart of Grand Rapids, MI. Our school enrollment is about 70% white students and 30%, students of color and about 34% of our student population qualifies for Free or Reduced Lunch. About7% of our total school population receive special education services. We are proud of the diversity in our school within a broad range of demographics. The Single Building School District is a Charter School, authorized by the Grand Rapids Public Schools. Duties and Responsibilities: Provides classroom instruction to students as outlined in lesson plans Maintains a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and developmentally appropriate to students Maintains a safe and orderly environment Follows and/or establishes routine of school and classroom procedures Maintains classroom culture, encouraging self-regulation and responsibility Communicates effectively with other staff and teachers as needed Completes other duties as assigned, typical of the classroom teacher Required Qualifications: - 60 credit hours at a college or university with a passing average of C or higher - Able to pass a background check for working with children - LOVE students, be flexible and energetic Additional Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and governmental regulations. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent. Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, schedule or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Computer Skills: General knowledge of computer usage and ability to use, e-mail, internet software and word processing software. Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to appropriately communicate with students, teachers, parents and members of the community. Ability to exercise good judgment and work in an environment with constant interruptions.
